Love Your Shot! | Link-Up

by Misti on August 12, 2010

For those of you who have not seen the movie, “Horton Hears a Who!”, I must apalogize in advance. For what I’m about to write will make no sense to you whatsoever, and you might just think I’ve lost my mind. This is my favorite, and by far the most classic line in the movie, when Horton is talking to his little friends and trying to explain to them that there’s a tiny little world living on the fuzzy purple flower he’s guarding with his life…

“In my world, we’re all ponies! And we eat rainbows and poop butterflies!”

Now, tell me this flower doesn’t look like the one Horton is holding…

I happened upon this little treasure a couple of weeks ago, when I was out on a photo shoot with Michelle. I think it’s the perfect photo to kick off our new Love Your Shot! | Link-Up weekly feature over at Love that Shot! Here’s proof you don’t need a fancy macro lens to get fun up-close shots…I shot this little guy with my standard issue 18-55mm lens! Here are the details:  shutter speed: 1/25 sec, f-stop: 5.6, ISO: 200. The wide-open aperture allowed me to get the focus right in the middle of the flower with the entire background blurry.

Do you have a fun photo and a tip you’d like to share with us, click on over to Love that Shot and link-up your post!

Photo edited in Photoshop using two textures from my Olde World Collection Photo Textures.

Lol, love it. We use that quote often. Cracked us up first time we heard it in the movie. Your picture is lovely!

I think we sometimes get caught up in “we MUST have that lens” syndrome! I love how your took your regular lens and showed that you can get great macro shots without an expensive macro lens. I also love your textures you used. I’ve been thinking about purchasing them and it’s great to see them in action. They will be a great addition to my workflow! Thanks for your kind comment on my photo. :)

Great shot, Misti!! I love the colors and the focus.

Actually, it reminds me of the end of the hair braids in Avatar, you know, what they use to “connect” with the Mother Tree or the dinosaur/bird animals they fly. LOL

Oh my goodness…I forgot about Avatar! You’re right Amanda, it totally looks like the ends of their hair too. Great catch!

Well, I haven’t seen Avatar yet, so I can only agree with you that it does look like the flower in Horton Hears a Who, which is one of my Dr. Suess faves!

I LOVE the photo! Of course, I am partial to Dr. Seuss. But I agree that it does look like it’s either from Horton Hears a Who or Avatar.

Hahaha, you are so right, Misti! That’s Horton’s pink puffball alright! I love the textures you used, too. Really gives the shot even more depth. Beautiful!
